During the summer of 2024, ~160,000 passengers sailed on the Baltic Sea’s newest cruise vessel - MS Birka Gotland.
Operating throughout June, July, and August, the vessel served various routes, including shorter cruises to Aland/Mariehamn and an unprecedented 31 sailings to Visby.
In addition to these popular destinations, Birka Gotland called at other sought-after locations around the Baltic Sea, such as Hoga Kusten, Ystad, and Bornholm. The vessel, which re-entered service in March 2024 under new ownership following an extensive refit, has also expanded its departure ports, allowing passengers from both Aland and Gotland easier access to its itineraries.
The ship’s longer voyages to Hoga Kusten, Ystad, and Bornholm were well-received, benefiting from strong collaborations with these destinations and offering a wide range of onshore excursions. While July saw the highest number of passengers during the industrial holiday period, August followed closely as another peak month for the cruise line.
Kenneth Gustavsson, commercial director Gotland Alandia Cruises, said:
“It is great fun that BIRKA GOTLAND has attracted so many travellers in its first summer under new management. It is proof that we have found the right thing with an attractive combination of onboard experiences and Baltic Sea destinations.
Now we will continue to be a relevant alternative for those looking for a shorter getaway with good food, shopping, spa and entertainment. This autumn we raise the temperature with double dance bands, 80s and 90s music on the weekends and, of course, our luxurious seafood buffet, which we serve every day of the week.”
