PortMiami (Florida, USA) has secured a US$19.5 million grant from the Resilient Florida Program to construct an elevated bulkhead system at Berth 10, reinforcing the port against flooding and sea level rise.
This initiative aligns with Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s Climate Action Strategy and Future-Ready Economic Plan, addressing the long-term challenges posed by climate change.
Mayor Levine Cava emphasized the significance of the grant in safeguarding the port's operations and its role as a key hub for international trade, stating that the investment is crucial for both infrastructure protection and the region's economic growth.
The project will bolster PortMiami’s resilience by upgrading its bulkhead system, improving stormwater management, and installing a submerged toe wall protecting critical infrastructure such as cargo areas and electrical substations from storm surges and rising waters.
This project is part of a broader strategy to ensure that PortMiami remains operational during extreme weather events, thereby securing jobs and supporting sustainable growth.
