Australian ferry operator TT-Line Company has taken delivery of its new Ro-Pax ship Spirit of Tasmania IV, from the shipbuilder Rauma Marine Constructions/RMC in Rauma Finland.
The delivery ceremony took place on September 12th, marking the completion of the first in a 2-ship order for TT-Line's Spirit of Tasmania service between Geelong (Victoria) and Devonport (Tasmania).
TT-Line's second vessel - Spirit of Tasmania V, is scheduled for delivery in early 2025.
Designed for the notoriously rough waters of the Bass Strait, Spirit of Tasmania 4 and her sistership are built to withstand the challenging conditions of this route, replacing vessels built in the 1990s.
The new ferries offer significantly increased passenger, vehicle, and freight capacities compared to their predecessors.
Spirit of Tasmania 4 successfully completed 2 series of sea trials prior to delivery.
While constructed in Finland, the vessel will undergo fit-out and future maintenance in Tasmania, in accordance with a government mandate to develop local ship maintenance capabilities.
