   September 25, 2024 ,   Accidents

RCI-Royal Caribbean International canceled an upcoming Icon of the Seas cruise, originally scheduled for September 28th (departure) due to "unforeseen maintenance requirements".

In a message to travel agents, RCI stated they are currently conducting unplanned maintenance onboard Icon OTS. The specific nature of the maintenance has not been disclosed, but the vessel will remain in homeport/PortMiami until the necessary repairs are completed.

Having debuted in January 2024, Icon OTS is currently the world’s largest cruise vessel ever, surpassing its predecessor (Wonder of the Seas) in size, length, and capacity. The mega-liner has max passenger capacity of 7600, plus 2350 staff/crew, bringing the total onboard population to ~10K.

While RCI has not provided details on the cause of the maintenance or any associated events, they have assured guests that efforts are underway to address the issue promptly. The ship is expected to remain docked for several days while repairs are conducted.

Affected passengers are being notified directly and presented with options for rebooking or compensation.
