Star Princess, the second LNG-powered cruise vessel constructed for Princess Cruises by Fincantieri, was officially launched/floated out from drydock today (September 26th) at the Monfalcone shipyard.
The launch ceremony was attended by John Padgett, President of Princess Cruises, and Cristiano Bazzara, Director of Fincantieri's Monfalcone yard.
The launch was overseen by godmothers Chiara del Vecchio (3rd Engineer on Sun Princess) and Francesca Maraventano (Executive Assistant at Fincantieri Monfalcone).
At ~178,000 gross tons, the Star Princess is a sistership to the Sun Princess, delivered earlier this year, and represents Italy's second-largest cruise ship ever constructed. She is also the second LNG-powered vessel built for Princess, marking the company's continued commitment to dual-fuel technology, primarily utilizing LNG. This fuel is regarded as the most advanced and scalable in the maritime sector, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and nearly eliminating other airborne pollutants.
The Star Princess is the second ship in Princess Cruises’ SPHERE class, with delivery expected in fall 2025. Designed on a next-generation platform, she will carry ~4,300 passengers.
Princess Cruises, a leading global travel brand and ship operator, runs a fleet of 17 vessels, serving millions of passengers annually across 330 destinations worldwide.
