The first China-constructed large passenger vessel Adora Magic City successfully completed 64 voyages, transporting 250,000+ passengers since its inaugural journey on January 1st, 2024, as reported by Adora Cruises - the subsidiary and travel brand of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).
On the latest voyage, Adora Magic City returned to homeport Shanghai following a 7-day/6-night National Day-themed cruise, accommodating 5,000+ passengers from both domestic and international locations. This marked the ship's 64th operational voyage, highlighting its growing efficiency and popularity within the market.
In 2025, Adora Magic City will be joined by Mediterranea, another vessel operated by Adora Cruises, with both ships set to offer year-round sailings from 6 home ports. These operations will encompass ~170 international cruise itineraries, designed to cater to the diverse needs of both domestic and international travelers. Additionally, construction of a second domestically built large cruise ship is progressing, with delivery expected by the end of 2026.
Cruise shipbuilding, recognized as the "pearl in the crown" of the maritime industry, is a highly complex and demanding process. The launch of Adora Magic City represents a significant milestone for China's shipbuilding industry, as it has now achieved mastery in constructing large cruise vessels, alongside large LNG-liquefied natural gas carriers and aircraft carriers, the other two "pearls" of the sector.
