On October 11th, ACL-American Cruise Lines announced the construction of American Maverick and American Ranger, the 7th and 8th vessels in its ongoing Project Blue series, designed to expand the company's small-ship offerings for the USA market.

The new vessels, each accommodating 125 passengers, are scheduled to enter service in 2026, following the debuts of American Patriot and American Pioneer (in 2025) and the riverboat American Encore in 2026.

The Project Blue series began with the introduction of four 100-passenger coastal catamarans in 2023 and 2024. The forthcoming American Maverick, American Ranger, American Patriot, and American Pioneer represent the next evolution in this line, offering enhanced features for coastal cruising. All 12 ships in the series are being constructed at ACL's shipbuilder Chesapeake Shipbuilding (Salisbury, Maryland USA).

ACL highlighted that the American Maverick and American Ranger will be fully stabilized vessels, designed for smooth coastwise sailing along the Eastern Seaboard. These new additions will expand the company's itinerary options from Maine to Florida, reinforcing ACL's unique position as the only cruise line with a 100% U.S.-flagged fleet of riverboats and small ships, offering fully domestic itineraries.

Both catamarans feature 5 decks, elegant interiors and all-balcony staterooms (56 each) with both double and single occupancy. The 4th deck includes all-suite accommodations ranging from 420 to 620 ft2 (39-58m2), while the 5th deck houses the Sky Lounge (providing panoramic views), a 360-degree walking track, and the casual outdoor Back Porch Cafe. Additional amenities include a main lounge and restaurant, a bow terrace, a horizon lounge, and a fitness center.

Once the new boats Maverick and Ranger enter service in 2026, ACL's fleet will comprise 24 small ships, offering the largest collection of fully domestic river and coastal itineraries in the United States.
