The ultra-premium travel company Windstar has commenced its ruby anniversary season, marking 40 years since its founding and its distinctive approach to small ship cruising.
The milestone was celebrated on October 16th with a significant gathering of two Windstar vessels in Port Kusadasi/Ephesus, Turkey - the Star Class motor yacht Star Legend and the Wind Class sailing yacht Wind Spirit.
The 312-passenger Star Legend and the 148-passenger Wind Spirit docked side by side as guests and crew disembarked for an exclusive event at the ancient ruins of Ephesus. This occasion marked the largest dinner Windstar has ever hosted at the historic site. Attendees included Windstar executives, captains, crew, and guests from both ships, all participating in a unique evening amidst the archeological wonders of Ephesus.
Windstar has been offering this 4-course alfresco dining experience to guests visiting the region for 20 years. However, this anniversary event expanded the tradition by hosting both vessels, with enhanced entertainment from the Aegean Chamber Orchestra, vocal performances, a progressive cocktail reception, and formal addresses commemorating the company’s 40-year history. Windstar’s Chief Commercial Officer Janet Bava and Chief Operations Officer Stijn Creupelandt welcomed guests, acknowledging returning Yacht Club members, as well as newcomers to the line.
Wind Spirit's Captain Mark Rowden and Star Legend's Captain Pedro Pinto reflected on their maritime careers and Windstar’s impact on the cruising industry, highlighting the dedication of the crew, many of whom have served with the company for over two decades. Windstar, founded by Karl Andren and Jean-Claude Potier in 1984, has been a leader in small-ship cruising with its innovative fleet.
Throughout the ruby anniversary season, Windstar will continue celebrations across its fleet, culminating in October 2025. This will include onboard activities such as a special Ruby Anniversary cocktail service, a Windstar trivia event, and the opportunity to win a voyage on Star Seeker ship’s inaugural cruise. Limited edition 40th-anniversary Seabags, made from recycled sails, will also be available. Windstar’s social media channels are sharing historical moments and crew recognition as part of the #40yearsofWindstar campaign.
