Viking Cruises has expanded its shipbuilding portfolio with an agreement for up to 6 new vessels from the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri.
The deal includes 2 confirmed units (set for deliveries in 2030) and 4 additional (optional) units to be potentially completed by 2031 and 2032. These ocean vessels, consistent with previous builds from the shipyard, will be ~54300 GT-tons/volume and designed to carry 998 passengers.
While the exact financial details remain undisclosed, Fincantieri has categorized the order as "large" with an estimated value ranging between EUR 500 million and 1 billion (US$540 million to 1.08 billion).
Viking and Fincantieri’s long-standing partnership has now produced 22 vessels since their collaboration began in 2012.
Both companies emphasized that the new ships will continue advancing eco-friendly technologies, with a focus on sustainable fuels and zero-emission power systems. Viking’s current fleet includes 10 vessels of similar scale, along with one operated through a joint venture with China Merchants.
Additionally, Viking has 8 more ships under construction at Fincantieri’s Ancona yard, with deliveries scheduled through 2029.
Fincantieri's CEO Pierroberto Folgiero said the agreement not only strengthens their orderbook, but it ensures further depth of work in their shipyards over the long term, positioning them "at the forefront of driving the industry towards energy transition."
