Princess Cruises cancels Regal Princess sailing from Galveston for technical maintenance

   October 27, 2024 ,   Accidents

Princess Cruises has announced the cancellation of the Regal Princess ship’s scheduled departure from Galveston TX USA on October 27th.

This action stems from the need for unexpected technical maintenance on the vessel. Regal Princess, recently repositioned from Europe, had been set to launch a 7-night Western Caribbean itinerary.

Princess Cruises conveyed the cancellation to booked guests, explaining that the decision was based on necessary, unanticipated technical work on the ship.

The canceled voyage included popular Caribbean destinations such as Cozumel Mexico, Belize City and Isla Roatan Honduras, marking what would have been the Regal Princess’ first Caribbean sailing from homeport Galveston.

The vessel was scheduled to serve as Princess Cruises’ lead ship for Caribbean operations from Texas through April 2025.

Affected bookings will receive a full refund and a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) equal to 25% of the fare paid, applicable to bookings made by May 31st, 2025, for sailings departing by May 31st, 2026. Those who had arranged air travel via Princess EZair will have their flights automatically canceled with full refunds issued, while passengers with independent air bookings are advised to reach out to airlines directly. Princess Cruises is offering up to US$200 in reimbursement for air change fees on independently booked flights.

This cancellation follows Regal Princess ship’s recent Transatlantic crossing (RepositionCruises.com), having completed a 21-night voyage from Europe to the USA earlier this month. The 2014-built vessel previously operated a summer schedule in Europe and the UK, calling at notable ports including Le Havre, Funchal, and St. John’s before arriving in North America.

While the October 27th sailing will not proceed, Princess Cruises assures future guests that all necessary technical maintenance will be completed to ensure the highest levels of safety and comfort. Following this maintenance, the Regal Princess will continue with her scheduled 7- to 11-night Western Caribbean itineraries from Galveston, which include diverse ports across the region.

For passengers booked on future voyages, the Regal Princess offers a range of onboard amenities, from high-end dining to various entertainment options, promising a comprehensive and memorable Caribbean cruising experience.
