The passenger ferry Agia Theodora (1989-built, IMO 8822155) was en route from Corfu to Igoumenitsa (mainland Greece) when experienced a grounding accident on Monday night, October 28th, approx 4 NM (7,5 km/5 mi) outside Port Igoumenitsa.
The ferryboat was carrying 550 passengers along with their vehicles when it encountered a mechanical failure and ran aground in shallow waters near the port.
Following the grounding, the Hellenic Coast Guard swiftly assessed the situation and deemed conditions stable enough to proceed with a controlled towing operation.
After a 2-hour delay, Agia Theodora was safely escorted to Port Igoumenitsa without reported injuries, according to updates from MEGA TV and To Vima.
