Mein Schiff Relax, an advanced cruise ship under construction at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone yard for Germany’s TUI Cruises, completed her initial sea trials this October.
At 160,000 GT-ton vessel will become the largest in TUI's fleet and mark the company's first LNG-powered/dual-fuel ship.
After departing the Monfalcone yard, Mein Schiff Relax underwent a brief drydocking for hull cleaning before beginning maneuverability tests. The sea trials included zigzag courses, basic maneuvering turns, and full astern tests.
Among the most striking exercises captured by drone was the 360-degree turn and a “Williamson turn” - a rapid 180-degree maneuver used in MOB/man-overboard scenarios.
According to TUI, the vessel demonstrated excellent maneuverability at full speed, meeting all criteria for the first testing phase. Measuring 1,093 feet (333 meters) in length, Mein Schiff Relax will soon commence testing of her dual-fuel LNG power system, which features two Azipod (propulsion) units and improved catalytic converters.
Equipped with an innovative Navigation Bridge design and shore power connection, Mein Schiff Relax and the sistership Mein Schiff Flow (currently under construction and slated for delivery in 2026) will be ready to transition to bio- or e-LNG fuels in the future, underscoring TUI’s commitment to sustainable maritime operations.
