The 294-meter Norwegian Star, operated by NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line, arrived at Damen Shiprepair in Brest (France) on October 21st, 2024, for a scheduled 3-week maintenance program.

This technical stopover includes essential repairs and regular upkeep under Damen Shiprepair’s expertise, aimed at optimizing the vessel’s performance for upcoming voyages.

Key maintenance projects underway at Damen Shiprepair include:

  • Azipod Overhaul: Technicians will dismantle the ship's 2 azipods (steerable thrusters) to replace rotation bearings, which are critical for accurate maneuvering.
  • Bow Thruster Service: Of the 3 bow thrusters, 2 are set for a detailed inspection, while the third will be replaced, ensuring the Norwegian Star maintains optimal handling capabilities.
  • Stabilizer Replacement: A significant project will involve replacing the vessel's stabilizer, a precision-manufactured 80-ton component supplied by Foure Lagadec and delivered via cargo ship from facilities in France and Spain. This operation requires partial hull cutting, scheduled for around October 25th.
  • Hull Maintenance: The ship's hull will undergo necessary upkeep, including valve servicing, comprehensive cleaning, and repainting to safeguard the structure and improve hydrodynamic performance.

After a 10-day voyage from Southampton UK, Norwegian Star docked in Brest’s Drydock 3.

The vessel is scheduled to complete these maintenance tasks by mid-November, after which it will be ready to resume revenue operations.
