The Bonn-based cruise operator Phoenix Reisen, in partnership with Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (Cyprus) Ltd., is preparing for substantial renovations on its largest vessel, the MS Artania, which will dock at Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven on November 6th.

The extensive refurbishment is part of a EUR 20 million investment between the two partners, focused on enhancing guest accommodations, dining, and ship efficiency.

Originally launched in 1984 as the Royal Princess, MS Artania will undergo several key updates:

  • New Balcony Cabins: Additional balcony cabins will be introduced on the Orion Deck (Deck 5) and Apollo Deck (Deck 6).
  • Dining Enhancements: The Artania Restaurant on the Salon Deck (Deck 3 aft) will see a full redesign, and a new dining venue, “Pichler’s,” will be introduced.
  • Updated Lido and Fitness Areas: Panoramic windows will be added to the Lido buffet restaurant on Deck 8 and the fitness studio, providing guests with enhanced views.

Additional improvements include the installation of drinking water dispensers for guest convenience, and technical enhancements to the ship’s onboard systems:

  • WLAN Optimization: Additional routers will improve WiFi coverage onboard.
  • Fuel Efficiency: New underwater paint will reduce fuel consumption by up to 15%.
  • Environmentally Conscious Updates: Four new tender boats equipped with more eco-friendly engines will be added, and the ship’s air conditioning systems will be upgraded to energy-efficient Class A standards.

The MS Artania will return to service on December 2nd, with the first of 4 scheduled "Advent Cruises). The vessel will also embark on Phoenix Reisen's longest world voyage. The 162-day itinerary departs from Hamburg on December 22nd.
