NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line’s ship Norwegian Dawn recently refueled with a B30 sustainable biofuel blend from Dutch provider GoodFuels while at IJmuiden Cruise Terminal in Holland.
This B30 blend, exclusively made from 100% waste and residue-certified feedstocks, was provided through a collaboration between FincoEnergies and KPI OceanConnect.
According to GoodFuels, the sustainable biofuel blend enables Norwegian Dawn to reduce lifecycle CO2 emissions by as much as 80-90% compared to conventional marine diesel, without requiring modifications to the ship’s engines. This initiative supports Norwegian Cruise Line's ‘Sail and Sustain’ program, which promotes the use of renewable fuels across 40% of its fleet.
Recognizing biodiesel as a practical transitional fuel, the cruise line is incorporating it to advance decarbonization efforts while longer-term solutions are developed and scaled.
Earlier in 2024, NCL bunkered other vessels - including Norwegian Escape, Seven Seas Voyager, and Oceania Riviera - with biofuel during their calls to Port Barcelona (Spain).
