Flooding in Spain delays Royal Caribbean's ship Adventure OTS Transatlantic cruise by 2 days

Adventure of the Seas, currently undergoing scheduled maintenance in Cadiz (Spain) has faced delays due to the region's severe rain and flooding.

The scheduled (in 5 years) routine drydocking has been impacted by adverse weather, resulting in adjustments to the Transatlantic itinerary.

RCI-Royal Caribbean informed passengers booked on the Transatlantic crossing (RepositionCruises.com) that the ship’s departure from Barcelona, initially planned for Sunday, November 24th, 2024, has been postponed to Tuesday, November 26th, 2024.

As a result, three Spanish call ports - Valencia, Malaga, and Seville, have been canceled. The revised itinerary includes an extended time at sea, with Funchal (Madeira Portugal) now serving as the sole port of call on Friday, November 29th.

Adventure OTS is expected to arrive at Port Canaveral FL as scheduled on December 7th, 2024.

To address the disruption, RCI has extended several compensatory measures to passengers:

  • Partial Refunds: A refund equivalent to two days of the cruise fare will be provided as onboard credit, along with pro-rated refunds for daily packages (beverage, dining, internet) and pre-paid gratuities.
  • Travel Accommodations: The line will cover air change fees up to US$200 for domestic travel and US$400 for international travel, or reimburse up to US$250 for one night of hotel accommodations per stateroom if required.
  • Crown and Anchor Points: Loyalty program points will reflect the original voyage length, ensuring no loss of benefits.

All refunds not used onboard will be processed to passengers’ accounts within 14 business days post-sailing.

Following her arrival in Port Canaveral, the Adventure OTS will resume her Caribbean schedule, offering 6- and 8-night itineraries through April 2025.

This is the second Royal Caribbean vessel recently affected by weather-related drydock delays.

Voyager of the Seas also encountered flooding in Spain, delaying her return to service by a day and prompting an itinerary adjustment that replaced Valencia with Palma de Mallorca.

Such delays underscore the logistical challenges cruise operators face when routine maintenance coincides with unpredictable weather conditions, emphasizing the importance of contingency planning in the industry.
