NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line has appointed Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet as the godfather of its newest vessel, Norwegian Aqua, set to embark on her inaugural voyage in April 2025. Known for his celebrated role in Modern Family, Stonestreet's humor and charisma align with NCL’s commitment to delivering joyful and memorable experiences for guests across its fleet of 19 ships and 450 global destinations.
NCL President David J. Herrera highlighted that Stonestreet’s authenticity, wit, and charm make him a fitting ambassador for the Norwegian Aqua. Herrera described him as a friend of NCL and noted that his attributes reflect the company’s values and vision.
As godfather, Stonestreet will officially welcome the Norwegian Aqua into the fleet, taking on the ceremonial role of christening the ship in a maritime tradition to ensure her good fortune. The ceremony, which involves breaking a champagne bottle across the vessel's bow, will take place on April 13th, 2025, in Miami (Florida USA).
Expressing enthusiasm about the honor, Stonestreet stated that he was thrilled to be part of the Norwegian Aqua’s journey and impressed by the ship’s offerings. Following her christening, the Norwegian Aqua will begin her regular service with 7-day itineraries departing from Port Canaveral (Florida USA), starting April 26th, 2025.
As the first vessel in NCL’s Prima Plus Class, Norwegian Aqua will introduce enhanced features and amenities, including new culinary options such as the upscale Thai restaurant Sukhothai, the plant-based eatery Planterie in Indulge Food Hall, and the contemporary Swirl Wine Bar. These additions reflect NCL’s ongoing efforts to elevate the cruising experience for her guests.
