Norwegian Aqua, the 3rd vessel in NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line’s Prima Plus class, has embarked on her initial sea trials, departing from Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard near Venice on December 10th.
The ship is undergoing a comprehensive series of tests in the Mediterranean to evaluate her safety, performance, and operational systems.
Sea trials are a critical phase in the construction of any vessel, ensuring that the Norwegian Aqua adheres to stringent maritime standards. Upon successful completion of these trials, the ship will return to the shipyard for final construction and outfitting in preparation for her highly anticipated debut. The vessel is scheduled to be christened in Miami on April 13th, 2025, with actor Eric Stonestreet serving as its ceremonial godfather.
Building on the achievements of her sisterships, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, the Norwegian Aqua introduces an array of innovations designed to enhance the guest experience. Among its standout features is the “Aqua Slidecoaster,” a hybrid water slide and roller coaster that marks a first for the cruise industry. The ship also boasts the industry’s inaugural 3-bedroom duplex suite, offering a new standard of luxury accommodations at sea.
At 322 meters in length and 156,300 gross tons, Norwegian Aqua is ~10% larger than its predecessors, underscoring Norwegian Cruise Line’s commitment to evolving its fleet. This expansion continues NCL’s longstanding collaboration with Fincantieri, a partnership that exemplifies excellence in maritime craftsmanship and innovation. The Prima Plus class is poised to redefine modern cruising, blending innovative design with unparalleled guest experiences.
