During her transatlantic crossing to the Caribbean, the cruise ship Costa Fascinosa provided critical assistance to a stranded sailing yacht that had run out of fuel. On December 14th, 2024, the Costa Fascinosa received a distress call from the Canadian-flagged vessel while en route to the Caribbean Islands.
At ~5:00 p.m., the Costa Fascinosa’s captain made the decision to alter course southward to provide assistance. After a 3-hour diversion, the ship reached the yacht. A lifeboat was deployed to deliver fuel, enabling the sailing vessel to continue its voyage. By 9:00 p.m., the Costa Fascinosa resumed her planned westward route toward Barbados. The operation, completed successfully, was acknowledged with cheers from passengers and a celebratory blast of the ship’s horn.
The Costa Fascinosa had departed from Savona (Italy) on December 5th for a 14-day transatlantic voyage and is scheduled to arrive in Pointe-a-Pitre (Guadeloupe) on December 19th. The detour is not expected to affect the ship’s scheduled arrival at the final destination.
