The construction of Mein Schiff Relax, the latest vessel in TUI Cruises' fleet, is nearing completion at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone (Italy).
The ship recently achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing her 3rd sea trial, during which she operated on liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the first time.
Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for early 2025, with the maiden voyage set for March 2nd, 2025, and a christening ceremony planned for April 9th, 2025, in Malaga (Spain).
The most recent sea trial focused on testing the ship's LNG propulsion system. TUI Cruises confirmed that the fuel system underwent comprehensive evaluations, including the bunkering of LNG and fuel cooling to ensure seamless operation. Subsequent test drives demonstrated the system's performance under operational conditions, marking an important step in integrating sustainable energy solutions aboard the ship. This milestone follows the first sea trial in October, which primarily assessed overall performance and maneuverability. Together, these trials underscore the readiness of Mein Schiff Relax to employ dual-fuel engines capable of running on marine diesel as well as low-emission, climate-friendly bio- and e-LNG fuels.
Georgios Vagiannis, Director of Newbuild at TUI Cruises, highlighted the ship’s groundbreaking approach to sustainability, noting that with the Mein Schiff Relax, not only is a new class of ship being introduced, but they are also advancing significantly in sustainable maritime operations.
Mein Schiff Relax is the lead vessel of TUI Cruises' new InTUItion class, offering several advancements over previous ships in the fleet. Technological innovations include:
- LNG Propulsion: Supporting the use of bio- and e-LNG to align with TUI Cruises' climate-neutral cruising objectives.
- Azipod Propeller Nacelles: Enhancing maneuverability for improved operational efficiency.
- High-Tech Navigation Systems: Integrating advanced technologies on the bridge for enhanced safety and navigation.
Beyond technical innovations, guest-focused enhancements include redesigned outdoor areas, new bar and dining concepts, and upgraded entertainment options.
Following her debut in the spring of 2025, Mein Schiff Relax will operate itineraries in the western Mediterranean before repositioning to the Canary Islands for her inaugural winter season in 2025–2026. These developments position the vessel as a flagship of sustainable cruising within the TUI Cruises fleet.
