NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line reported that a comprehensive search for a 51-year-old male passenger who went overboard on Thursday, December 26th, during a voyage from Jamaica to the Bahamas was unsuccessful.
According to a statement issued on Friday, December 27th, by a cruise line representative, the man had been traveling as part of a large group aboard the Norwegian Epic, which had departed from Port Canaveral (Orlando, Florida USA) on a 7-night Western Caribbean voyage.
The spokesperson also noted that the passenger's family, who were on board, were receiving care and support from the crew.
The incident occurred ~3:00 p.m. while the vessel was en route from Ocho Rios (Jamaica) to Nassau (Bahamas). Upon receiving notification, the cruise line alerted the relevant authorities. A search and rescue operation, coordinated by the Bahamas Rescue Coordination Center, was promptly initiated.
Despite the extensive efforts, the search did not yield results, and the ship was subsequently cleared by the authorities to proceed with the scheduled journey.
Norwegian Cruise Line expressed condolences to the man's family, extending their support during this challenging period.
