Last week, Antigua Cruise Port marked a significant milestone for the year, hosting 4 vessels and an impressive 13,312 passengers as it moves toward what could be a record-breaking performance.
By December 28th, the port reported 570 cruise ship calls and 825,526 passengers for the year, a notable increase compared to the 446 cruise ship calls and 670,234 passengers recorded in 2023. These figures reflect a year-to-date growth of 27% in ship calls and 23% in passenger arrivals, emphasizing Antigua’s growing appeal as a prominent destination in the Caribbean.
Among the vessels docked that day were Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Breakaway (NCL-Norwegian), Arvia (P&O UK) and Emerald Azzurra (Emerald Cruises) Arvia's and Azzurra’s homeporting at Heritage Quay highlighted Antigua’s expanding role as a preferred homeport in the region.
Gasper George (General Manager of Antigua Cruise Port) shared his enthusiasm about the day’s achievements. He observed that the port’s growth this year is a testament to collaborative efforts and strategic planning aimed at establishing Antigua as a premier cruise destination. George remarked that the increase in ship calls and passenger arrivals exemplifies the success of these initiatives and anticipated continued progress in the years ahead.
The Honorable Charles Fernandez, Minister for Tourism and Investment, also commented on the milestone, emphasizing its importance to the nation’s tourism sector. He acknowledged the collective investments in infrastructure and service excellence that have reinforced Antigua and Barbuda’s standing as a key destination in the cruise market. Fernandez regarded the port’s achievements as a boost not only for the tourism industry but also for the broader economic development of local communities.
