Costa Cruises' 2019-built ship Costa Smeralda successfully completed her liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering at Dubai Port.

The fueling operation, conducted by the LNG tanker ship Green Zeebrugge (IMO 9750024) replenished the vessel's three cryogenic steel tanks with 3000 m3 of LNG, providing sufficient fuel to power the engines for at least 2,5 weeks.

This milestone was facilitated through a collaborative effort involving logistics provider Monjasa and the Dubai Port Authority, marking Costa’s pioneering introduction of LNG technology to Dubai’s maritime infrastructure. Costa Cruises, a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation, continues to reinforce its leadership in sustainable cruising through the adoption of cleaner energy solutions.

Costa Smeralda arrived in Dubai on December 21st, following a relocation voyage around Africa (RepositionCruises.com). After its winter season in Dubai, the vessel is scheduled to embark on March 1st on a 37-day itinerary to Europe/Mediterranean visiting ports in Oman, Mauritius, South Africa, and Morocco, culminating in its arrival at Genoa on April 7th.

This LNG bunkering underscores Costa’s commitment to advancing environmentally responsible practices in the cruise industry, setting a benchmark for future sustainable operations in the region.
