HAL-Holland America Line announced a US$70 million investment to enhance its Denali NP property and cruisetour (land and sea travel) experiences.
The multi-year project at the Denali Lodge will bring substantial upgrades to the guest experience. In 2025, enhancements will include updates to the riverside interpretive trail with scenic viewpoints, improved wayfinding, refined dining options, and upgrades to public spaces in the Cottonwood and Canyon Lodge buildings. By 2026, the lodge will feature 48 remodeled rooms, a new coffee shop, and an expanded Karstens Public House with additional indoor and outdoor seating designed to immerse guests in the Alaskan setting. The project will culminate in 2027 with the addition of a new guest-room building offering 120 suites and standard rooms, alongside a renovated main lodge featuring a new restaurant concept, a redesigned lobby bar, and an enhanced coffee experience.
Holland America Line’s Cruisetours for 2025 and 2026 are now available for booking. These itineraries combine Alaskan cruises with overland journeys into Denali National Park and Canada’s Yukon Territory, offering guests unforgettable access to the region’s natural wonders. Each of the 17+ itineraries includes unique features such as a scenic ride aboard the glass-domed McKinley Explorer train, allowing panoramic views of Alaska’s dramatic landscapes. Select routes venture through Dawson City and include rides on the historic White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad from Skagway. Some itineraries also offer direct-to-Denali service, enabling guests to travel seamlessly from ship to lodge in a single day.
In addition to exploring Alaska’s glaciers, Holland America Line offers more opportunities to witness the region’s wildlife than any other cruise line. Wildlife experts accompany guests on board, providing guidance on spotting Alaska’s diverse fauna, including whales, eagles, bears, moose, sea lions, and otters. Guests receive wildlife spotting guides with maps of the best viewing locations, and wildlife sightings are announced throughout the day to enhance the experience. Ashore, ~180 animal sanctuaries and wilderness tours are available, underscoring Holland America Line’s leadership in Alaska wildlife excursions.
