RCG-Royal Caribbean Group (world's second-biggest cruise shipowner) finalized an agreement to construct a 6th EDGE-class ship for its subsidiary Celebrity Cruises.
The vessel is set for delivery in 2028 from Chantiers de l'Atlantique/STX France shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, continuing the partnership between the French shipbuilder and the Celebrity brand.
The new vessel will join Celebrity's fleet as a sistership to Celebrity Ascent, which is scheduled to debut in November 2025.
Like the Ascent, the 6th Edge-class ship will feature the capability to operate on methanol, aligning with Celebrity’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and advancing green technology within the maritime sector.
The contract for the newbuild remains subject to standard conditions, including securing the necessary financing.
Celebrity Cruises has announced that the Ascent will introduce 7 innovative experiences not found on earlier Edge-class vessels. While specific details remain under wraps, the cruise line has invited feedback from guests to help shape future culinary and entertainment offerings, signaling a customer-focused approach to enhancing the onboard experience.
This 6th ship in the Edge series marks a decade of success for the class, which first launched with Celebrity Edge in 2018, solidifying its reputation for cutting-edge design, luxury, and technological innovation.
