The Port Authority of Volos (Greece) announced that debris removal operations are now underway at the port’s cruise pier, with completion scheduled for March 31st, 2025. This effort will restore the pier’s operating depths to 9.5 meters, ensuring it can once again accommodate cruise ship moorings efficiently.

The Greek Port faced significant challenges following the catastrophic floods of 2023, which deposited an estimated 700,000 m3 of debris into the turning basin. These deposits drastically reduced operating depths, creating obstacles for ship docking and disrupting port operations.

With the debris removal project progressing as planned, the port is on course to fully restore its functionality, meeting the requirements of modern cruise vessels. The Port Authority of Volos is actively encouraging cruise operators to consider incorporating Volos into their itineraries for the upcoming season, highlighting the port’s readiness to welcome ships and passengers once more.

This restoration effort underscores the Port of Volos’ commitment to resilience and maintaining its role as a key destination in the Aegean cruise network.
