Cunard invites the public to co-create "Sea of Glamour" exhibition

Cunard Line has announced an initiative inviting the public to co-create a new exhibition titled "Sea of Glamour" to celebrate its 185 years of ocean travel.

Cunard's effort responds to concerns about the generational gap in preserving memories in the digital age, as highlighted by recent research indicating that ~265 billion images are taken annually in the UK and the USA, many of which remain unshared and unseen.

The study revealed that while smartphones account for 97% of photos taken, only 3% of individuals store their cherished memories in printed albums. This reliance on digital storage raises concerns that future generations may lose access to important memories, with 72% of respondents believing that without physical photos, these memories could be lost. Additionally, many adults reported issues with photo preservation, such as running out of storage or losing images due to device failures.

To address these challenges, Cunard encourages guests, employees, and celebrities to submit their photographs taken aboard its ships. These contributions will be incorporated into the "Sea of Glamour" exhibition, planned to debut at Liverpool's Liver Building in May. It will showcase a mix of historical images from Cunard's archives, featuring notable figures from Hollywood, music, politics, and royalty, alongside newly curated public submissions.

Mary McCartney will capture a final photograph for the exhibition on its opening day, providing a contemporary perspective on Cunard's rich history. Cunard's archivist emphasized the importance of preserving stories connected to the brand for future generations.

Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, underscored the significance of this initiative as a way to celebrate the unforgettable moments experienced by guests and crew over ~2 centuries. The "Sea of Glamour" exhibition is set to become a global showcase, traveling aboard Cunard ships to commemorate this milestone anniversary.

Individuals interested in contributing their memories can submit their photographs via the Cunard website or email by March 9th, 2025. For further information about Cunard or to book a voyage, potential travelers are encouraged to visit Cunard's official website or contact their travel advisor.
