The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA Louisiana) recorded 1.2 million cruise passenger movements in 2024, surpassing its previous record set in 2023.
The port continued to secure long-term commitments from cruise operators. CCL-Carnival Cruise Line finalized a 5-year agreement to base 2 vessels, Carnival Valor and Carnival Liberty, in New Orleans for year-round operations. NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line introduced Norwegian Getaway to the port in October under a similar 5-year arrangement, while RCI-Royal Caribbean International resumed sailings from Port NOLA in November with Brilliance of the Seas. Additionally, the port remains a key hub for river cruising, serving as the homeport for 6 river vessels, including Viking Mississippi, which was constructed in Louisiana.
Beth Branch, president and CEO of Port NOLA, acknowledged the contributions of the port’s cruise and hospitality partners, including New Orleans & Company, in achieving the record-breaking passenger volume. She noted that these partnerships have driven continued growth in both the ocean and river cruise sectors, and she anticipated further success in 2025.
Port NOLA, ranked as the 6th-largest cruise port in the United States, operates 2 terminals, Erato Street and Julia Street, both of which are located near the city’s historic French Quarter. Walt Leger III, president and CEO of New Orleans & Company, highlighted the organization’s ongoing efforts to maintain New Orleans as a premier cruise destination. He credited the sustained passenger growth to strategic initiatives and long-standing industry relationships, emphasizing the city's commitment to providing a unique and welcoming experience for cruise travelers.
Port NOLA’s 2025 schedule includes several high-profile calls, beginning with the arrival of Explora II from Explora Journeys on January 16th. Other notable cruise ships set to visit the port include Ventura from P&O Cruises and Spirit of Discovery from Saga Cruises.
