Cyprus is preparing for a substantial rise in cruise activity, with projections indicating a 30% increase in ship arrivals for 2025, as reported by Deputy Shipping Minister Marina Hadjimanolis.

The forecast includes 139 vessels scheduled to dock at Port Limassol, including 26 using it as a homeport.

Hadjimanolis emphasized that selecting Limassol as a port for embarkation and disembarkation (roundtrip itineraries) signifies strong confidence in Cyprus's offerings. She noted that this development not only bolsters the nation's economy but also reinforces its reputation as a secure and stable destination on the global stage.

The Deputy Minister elaborated on the positive economic impact of increased cruise activity, highlighting the benefits to both the tourism and shipping sectors. To maintain this momentum, Cyprus has endorsed a national strategy for cruise tourism, focusing on building strategic partnerships and implementing innovative initiatives.

Hadjimanolis outlined plans to enhance Cyprus's presence at international exhibitions and conferences to attract new cruise lines, aiming to position the country as a premier choice for Mediterranean cruise itineraries.

Additionally, the ferry service between Cyprus and Greece continues to attract passengers, offering a vital travel alternative for those who prefer not to fly. With 22 return voyages planned for 2025, this service aligns with the tourist season and addresses various societal needs.

Hadjimanolis also acknowledged the positive effects of the recent ceasefire in Gaza, noting that the easing of geopolitical tensions paves the way for smoother maritime operations in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Looking ahead, the Deputy Minister announced plans to establish a cruise tourism advisory board to refine operational strategies, enhance marketing efforts, and strengthen international partnerships. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize port facilities and improve onshore visitor experiences, ensuring Cyprus remains a leader in cruise tourism innovation.
