On January 30th, 2025, while en route from Brisbane to Auckland, the cruise ship Diamond Princess experienced a medical emergency off the coast of New Zealand.
A crew member sustained a severe eye injury, necessitating an airlift evacuation.
The Northland Rescue Helicopter executed the offshore winch rescue after being tasked by the Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ).
Details regarding the crew member's nationality and position have not been disclosed.
At the time, Diamond Princess was on a 14-day roundtrip from Australia, having departed Brisbane on January 27th, and scheduled to return on February 10th.
