NCLH-Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd and the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri formalized an agreement for the construction of 4 new ships, at total value ~EUR 9 billion (USD 9.34 billion). This contract represents the largest single order in Fincantieri's history.
Fincantieri has previously delivered 2 vessels to NCL (Norwegian Prima, Norwegian Viva) and is preparing to hand over a 3rd in 2025 (Norwegian Aqua) and a 4th in 2026 (Norwegian Luna.
NCL's newly commissioned vessels, each with a volume of ~226,000 GT-tons and max passenger capacity (over 4200) will be constructed at Fincantieri's Monfalcone shipyard.
The deliveries are scheduled for 2030, 2032, 2034, and 2036.
This agreement is part of a broader strategic expansion between the two companies, encompassing new ship classes for NCL's brands: RSSC-Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Oceania Cruises, and NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line.
The collaboration aims to introduce vessels that prioritize technological advancement, passenger comfort, and environmental sustainability.
Pierroberto Folgiero (Fincantieri's CEO) emphasized the significance of this partnership, noting that it underscores a shared vision for the future of maritime travel, focusing on innovation, luxury, sustainability, and guest satisfaction.
In addition to its core shipbuilding activities, Fincantieri is diversifying into the defense and underwater sectors. The company recently acquired Leonardo's UAS submarine business and has expressed openness to collaborations with Thyssenkrupp's warship division.
Following the announcement, Fincantieri's shares significantly increased on the Milan stock exchange.
