A norovirus outbreak on ms Rotterdam, a HAL-Holland America Line vessel, resulted in ~120 individuals falling ill.
Out of 2,614 guests, 107 reported symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea, along with 12 crew members, as noted by the CDC.
The ship had departed on a 12-day Panama Canal cruise from Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades, Florida) on February 2nd.
Holland America Line confirmed that most cases were mild and resolved swiftly. The company had implemented enhanced sanitation protocols in collaboration with the CDC to minimize further transmission, including continuous disinfection of the ship, and had isolated affected guests and crew members.
This event represents the 7th gastrointestinal outbreak on a cruise in 2025 that has met the CDC’s criteria for public notification, following 18 similar incidents in 2024, many of which were attributed to norovirus.
