On Wednesday, February 26th, the RCI-Royal Caribbean vessel Brilliance of the Seas executed a successful maritime rescue operation in the Gulf of Mexico, retrieving 11 individuals from a distressed vessel situated between Cuba and Mexico. The ship's crew promptly provided the rescued individuals with medical attention, nourishment, hydration, and appropriate clothing.
This event occurred during a 7-night Caribbean cruise, chartered by the LGBTQ+ vacation company VACAYA. Departing from New Orleans (Port NOLA Louisiana) on February 22nd, the itinerary included stops in Cozumel and Grand Cayman, with the rescue taking place en route to Progreso. Passengers and crew observed the distressed vessel, leading to a coordinated rescue effort.
Visual documentation depicts the ship's rescue boat facilitating the transfer of the individuals to the Brilliance of the Seas in multiple trips. VACAYA representatives noted the collaborative nature of the operation, highlighting guest involvement in gathering dry clothing and the crew's provision of essential care.
The current condition of the rescued individuals remains undisclosed. Royal Caribbean is actively coordinating with pertinent authorities to determine subsequent actions.
