MSC Cruises has appointed actor and entrepreneur Drew Barrymore as godmother of its flagship MSC World America, with a naming ceremony scheduled for April 9th at the newly inaugurated MSC Miami Cruise Terminal, now the world’s largest facility of its kind. Barrymore, alongside co-star Orlando Bloom from MSC’s “Let’s Holiday” campaign launched during the 2024 Super Bowl, will initiate the maritime tradition of breaking a champagne bottle against the vessel’s bow via a ribbon-cutting mechanism.
Barrymore expressed enthusiasm for the role, emphasizing her affinity for travel and the symbolic significance of christening a ship designed to facilitate global exploration. Suzanne Salas, MSC Cruises USA’s Executive Vice President of Marketing, noted Barrymore’s alignment with the brand’s values, citing her blend of sophistication and advocacy for experiential travel.
Post-ceremony, MSC World America will embark on a 3-night voyage to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in The Bahamas, where the MSC Foundation will inaugurate a Marine Conservation Centre. The facility will support coral reef restoration efforts under the Foundation’s Super Coral Programme, while offering educational opportunities for guests.
The vessel introduces seven themed districts, including The Harbour - an outdoor family zone featuring an over-water swing ride, water park, and complimentary dining. Onboard amenities encompass 18 bars and lounges, such as the All-Stars Sports Bar and The Loft comedy venue, alongside 19 dining options, including the first seagoing Eataly restaurant and the Greek-inspired Paxos. Additional highlights include a 3-level World Galleria and one of the longest dry slides at sea.
Commencing its inaugural season from Miami on April 12th, MSC World America will operate alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, with calls at Ocean Cay, alongside ports such as Puerto Plata, Cozumel, and Nassau.
