Koh Samui Cruise Terminal is currently scheduled for completion and inauguration in 2032, with construction works set to start in 2029.
The project aims to enhance regional maritime connectivity and attract major cruise vessels operating between Singapore, Pattaya, and beyond.
Government spokesman Jirayu Houngsub reaffirmed the timeline during a recent visit to Koh Samui in Surat Thani, where he led a working panel tasked with assessing tourism infrastructure along the Gulf of Thailand. The initiative follows a resolution passed during last month’s mobile Cabinet meeting in Songkhla, approving port development in Songkhla and other coastal provinces.
During the visit, Jirayu and his delegation inspected the Don Sak ferry pier, a key transport hub linking Koh Samui with the mainland. Officials from the Marine Department confirmed that ferry services at Don Sak Pier are sufficient to accommodate growing tourist demand. Later, at the Samui Municipality office, Jirayu received updates on the cruise terminal project and related tourism developments.
Jirayu emphasized that the new terminal will significantly improve the region’s cruise operations, facilitating itineraries between Songkhla’s Mueang district and Koh Samui. Adul Raluekmul, director of the Samui Marine Office, confirmed that the project is progressing as planned, with construction aligned with the government’s proposed timeline.
The government anticipates that the Samui terminal will serve as a strategic port of call for large cruise ships from Singapore, further integrating the Gulf of Thailand into international cruise networks.
Beyond port infrastructure, local officials raised concerns about wastewater management and water supply on the island. Jirayu pledged to coordinate with the Interior Ministry to secure funding for large-scale wastewater treatment facilities and to work with regional water authorities to develop an undersea pipeline to improve tap water access for residents and visitors.
