Global Ports Holding secures 50-year lease to operate Greenock Cruise Port

Global Ports Holding Ltd (GPH), recognized as the world's largest cruise port operator, has entered into a 50-year lease agreement with Clydeport Operations Ltd, a subsidiary of Peel Ports Group, to oversee operations at Greenock Cruise Port

This strategic move underscores the port's escalating prominence in the cruise industry. In 2024, Greenock Cruise Port welcomed 80+ cruise ships, marking a significant increase in passenger traffic to Inverclyde.

Notably, the port has accommodated some of the world's largest vessels, including RCI-Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas, which has a capacity exceeding 4,000 passengers, and Disney Cruise Line's Disney Dream, featuring 18 decks and an onboard water coaster.

The recent inauguration of a GBP 20 million visitor center further enhances the port's infrastructure. This project, led by Inverclyde Council, is part of the GBP 1 billion Glasgow City Region City Deal, funded by both the Scottish and UK governments, with contributions from Peel Ports Group and the George Wyllie Foundation via the Dunard Fund.

GPH's acquisition of the operational lease aims to capitalize on this momentum, with plans to attract a broader spectrum of international passengers. This development also signifies GPH's expansion into Scotland, following its addition of Liverpool Cruise Port to its portfolio in April 2024, thereby strengthening its presence in Northern Europe.

The integration of Greenock Cruise Port into GPH's portfolio is anticipated to bolster Scotland's cruise tourism sector, offering enhanced facilities and experiences for the increasing number of visitors to the region.
