Croatia's Ministry of the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure has announced the construction of the Perna (Orebic) ferry terminal, with an investment of EUR 19.5 million, supported by a EUR 16.6 million grant from the EU.
This project aims to enhance connectivity between the Peljesac Peninsula and Korcula Island, alleviating traffic congestion in Orebic, particularly during the summer months.
The development encompasses the construction of a central quay measuring 90.18 meters in length, equipped to accommodate vessels on both sides, along with ferry ramps suitable for various weather conditions. Additionally, a secondary pier to the east and two buildings housing amenities such as a cafe, public restroom, temporary storage, ticket kiosk, and lounge are planned.
The Dubrovnik-Neretva County Port Authority, designated to operate the terminal, is set to issue a tender for the construction works. The project is expected to commence in autumn 2025, alongside the development of supporting road infrastructure.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve regional transport infrastructure, which includes the construction of the Orebic bypass and the new Polaciste port on Korcula. Collectively, these projects aim to enhance the efficiency of passenger and vehicle ferry services, thereby boosting the local economy and tourism sector.
