Carnival Corporation hosted a delegation of Barbados government officials and regulatory representatives aboard P&O Cruises' Britannia to highlight the company's environmental sustainability initiatives. The event featured presentations and tours demonstrating Carnival's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.

Sander Groothuis, Vice President of Marine & Port Operations at Carnival UK, detailed the coordination between the cruise port and the airport to support efficient logistics. Michele Andjel, Vice President of Public Relations at Carnival UK, highlighted Carnival Corporation's significant environmental milestones, including a 20% reduction in carbon intensity by the end of 2026 compared to 2019, expanding liquefied natural gas (LNG) programs, and optimizing the performance of Advanced Air Quality Systems (AAQS).

Attendees toured Britannia's environmental systems, including the bridge, where they were introduced to the OneOcean platform - an advanced advisory system ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Environmental Officer Douglas Lauder led a walkthrough of the ship's waste management practices, demonstrating onboard sorting and processing of recyclables. Chief Engineer Glenn Milligan explained the ship's Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS), which reduces sulfur oxides from engine exhaust emissions, and noted that the ship produces over 80% of the water consumed onboard from seawater.

Barbados officials expressed interest in these sustainability practices, underscoring Carnival Corporation's commitment to responsible operations and alignment with the island's conservation goals. P&O Cruises also highlighted community engagement initiatives in Barbados, including partnerships with St. Mary's Primary School, Walkers Reserve, and the National Cultural Foundation. As part of the collaboration with the National Cultural Foundation, several of Barbados' top chefs will be hosted on Britannia and Arvia each weekend throughout the season, offering guests authentic island dining experiences showcasing local cuisine.
