In 2025, Belfast Harbour (Northern Ireland) is set to host a robust cruise season, featuring 146 calls from 57 ships representing 31 different cruise lines. This season is anticipated to bring ~225,000 passengers and over 100,000 crew members to the city, contributing an estimated GBP 20 million to GBP 25 million to the local economy.

The season will commence on March 30th with the arrival of Viking's newest vessel Viking Vela, marking her inaugural visit to Belfast. Other notable first-time callers include Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady (August) and the 333-meter-long MSC Preziosa, which will be the largest vessel visiting this year.

Belfast Harbour will facilitate 8 'turnarounds' this year, where passengers begin and end their voyages in the city, boosting overnight stays in local hotels. Additionally, a partial turnaround is planned for international travelers, primarily from the United States, embarking on Silversea's ship Silver Shadow, for a 28-day voyage. Ambassador Cruise Line will also offer departures from Belfast to various destinations across Scotland and Europe.

Furthermore, 10 cruise calls are scheduled to stay overnight in Belfast, providing passengers with the opportunity to explore Northern Ireland more extensively and experience the city's vibrant nightlife.

Michael Robinson, Port Director of Belfast Harbour, emphasized the significant economic impact of the cruise sector on the city and highlighted the port's commitment to sustainable operations. He also noted a recent GBP 90 million investment in a new deepwater quay to accommodate additional cruise business and the exploration of clean power solutions for visiting vessels.

Mary Jo McCanny, Director of Visitor Experience and Destination Initiatives at Visit Belfast, expressed enthusiasm about the city's growing reputation as a must-visit destination for cruise passengers. She highlighted the addition of ten overnight cruise calls this year, allowing passengers to fully enjoy Belfast's vibrant nightlife and excellent local food offerings.

Naomi Waite, Director of Marketing at Tourism Northern Ireland, remarked on the potential for cruise visitors to return for longer stays after experiencing Belfast and Northern Ireland as part of their cruise itinerary. She expressed confidence that many first-time visitors would be inspired to return to embrace the region's unique spirit.

This upcoming cruise season underscores Belfast's growing prominence in the global cruise industry and its commitment to enhancing the visitor experience while supporting the local economy.
