A total solar eclipse is a rare and remarkable phenomenon, and observing it at sea—particularly at sunset—offers an unobstructed and unparalleled vantage point. Recognizing the unique appeal of such an experience, Windstar has announced a second eclipse-focused voyage for August 2026, this time aboard the 148-guest sailing yacht Wind Spirit.

Departing from Rome (Civitavecchia, Italy) on August 6, 2026, the 7-night "Mediterranean Sunset Eclipse Cruise" will chart a course through the Western Mediterranean, making port calls at Bastia and Calvi in Corsica, Alghero in Sardinia, and Mahon in Menorca. The itinerary includes 2 full days at sea, allowing passengers to fully immerse themselves in the maritime experience.

On August 12th, Wind Spirit will navigate to a strategic position north of Mallorca (Spain), ensuring optimal visibility for the solar eclipse, weather permitting. With the sun mere degrees above the western horizon at 8:30 p.m., the yacht’s unobstructed view will provide an exceptional perspective of this celestial event. An eclipse watch party will be hosted on deck, with protective eyewear supplied for all guests.

The voyage concludes in Barcelona (Spain) on August 13th.

The 2026 solar eclipse’s path of totality will traverse Spain and Portugal, with totality lasting approximately 2 minutes and 18 seconds. Observing the eclipse from the open sea ensures a clear line of sight to the horizon, free from terrestrial obstructions.

Beyond this remarkable astronomical event, Wind Spirit’s itinerary includes visits to 4 picturesque ports across 3 Mediterranean islands:

  • Bastia, Corsica – A vibrant port town with a historic center, 18th-century architecture, and the scenic Jardin Romieu gardens. Visitors can explore the bustling market or wander the old citadel’s fortifications.
  • Calvi, Corsica – This bay-front town is encircled by historic walls and crowned by a medieval citadel. Guests can enjoy Corsica’s sunlit beaches, tour its vineyards, or explore its rich historical sites, including the purported birthplace of Christopher Columbus.
  • Alghero, Sardinia – Often referred to as “Little Barcelona,” Alghero’s old town is enclosed by ancient fortifications and teems with lively markets, restaurants, and artisan shops. Its coastline features pristine beaches and the famed Neptune’s Grotto, a spectacular sea cave.
  • Mahon, Menorca – Home to one of the world’s longest and deepest natural harbors, Mahon boasts white-sand beaches, historic churches, and well-preserved archaeological sites from the Talayotic culture. The Sant Patrici Farm offers an opportunity to sample Menorca’s renowned cheese.
