Port Southampton reports strong cruise activity in early 2025

Following a record-setting performance in 2024, the Port of Southampton (England UK) has maintained robust activity into the first quarter of 2025. The port's advanced shore power infrastructure and status as a premier cruise hub facilitate year-round accommodation of cruise vessels. In January, several cruise lines embarked on extensive world cruises and voyages exceeding 35 days, while the port continued to host brands such as AIDA, P&O, MSC, Princess Cruises, and Norwegian Cruise Line. March saw the arrival of 18 cruise vessels, with preparations underway for the first 5-ship day of 2025 in April.

A notable event this quarter was the maiden call of the Norwegian Aqua, which selected Southampton for its inaugural voyage. During her stay, the vessel was commissioned for shore power, enabling zero emissions while docked. This Prima Plus-class ship accommodates over 3,000 guests and features attractions including the Aqua Slidecoaster—a hybrid roller coaster and waterslide—the Glow Court sports complex, and diverse dining venues. The port's strong start to 2025 positions it favorably for participation in the upcoming Seatrade Cruise Global exhibition, scheduled from April 7-10 in Miami. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the event will include ABP Southampton and its port partners among the attendees.

Southampton's strategic location offers exceptional sea, land, and air connectivity. International airports link the port to global passenger markets, while reliable road and rail networks ensure seamless access. This connectivity makes Southampton an ideal departure or transit point for cruise itineraries to Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, and other distant destinations.
