Flooding aboard Sky Princess due to burst pipe

   April 13, 2025 ,   Accidents

On the evening of April 8, 2025, the cruise vessel Sky Princess, operated by Princess Cruises, encountered a significant flooding event resulting from a burst pipe on Deck 7.

This malfunction led to the release of water from the Sky Pool (Deck 16), which cascaded through multiple decks, notably inundating the Piazza atrium on decks 5 and 6.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:45 p.m. local time, during the ship's 7-night round-trip voyage from Southampton, England. At the time, Sky Princess had completed port calls in La Coruna and Bilbao, Spain, and was en route to Le Verdon-sur-Mer, France.

In response to the flooding, the ship's emergency protocols were activated. Passengers were instructed via public address announcements to proceed to their designated muster stations. Some guests reported confusion due to concurrent false fire alarms triggered by technical issues, which compounded the urgency of the situation.

Shipboard teams acted promptly to halt the water flow and commence cleanup operations. Princess Cruises stated that the water accumulation was confined to the Piazza on decks five and six. Other entertainment venues remained operational, and guests were permitted to return to the affected areas by the morning of April 9.

Despite the disruption, there were no reported injuries, and the vessel's itinerary proceeded as scheduled, with subsequent stops in Cherbourg, France, before returning to Southampton on April 12th.
