On April 17th, Viking Group launched/floated out from drydock its newest Nile cruiser Viking Amun.

The elegant boat hosts 82 guests in 41 staterooms. The vessel touched water for the first time at the Massara shipyard (Cairo) and was berthed to a nearby outfitting dock for interior works and finishing touches to be completed.

Slated to commence her maiden voyage in September 2025, the Viking Amun will join Viking’s expanding fleet in Egypt, sailing the company’s revered 12-day "Pharaohs & Pyramids" itinerary.

The Amun boat has Viking’s signature design (like the sisterships and fleetmates Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek, and Viking Hathor) featuring the distinctive square bow and the indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace.

Chairman and CEO of Viking, Torstein Hagen, expressed pride in the company’s Egyptian fleet, referring to the vessels as the most elegant on the Nile. He emphasized the allure of Egypt as one of the world’s most fascinating destinations and conveyed enthusiasm for welcoming more travelers eager to explore its wonders in the years ahead.

In addition to the Viking Amun, Viking’s fleet in Egypt already includes the Viking Ra and MS Antares.

The company plans to launch five more ships by 2027, bringing the total number of vessels sailing the Nile under the Viking banner to 12.

The Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary promises an immersive journey into the heart of ancient Egypt. Guests begin with a 3-night stay in Cairo, exploring iconic landmarks such as the Great Pyramids of Giza, the necropolis of Sakkara, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. They then fly to Luxor to visit the magnificent Temples of Luxor and Karnak before embarking on an 8-day roundtrip cruise along the Nile. Highlights include visits to the tombs of Nefertari and Tutankhamen, the temples at Abu Simbel, the Temple of Khnum in Esna, the Dendera Temple complex in Qena, and the High Dam in Aswan. A cultural excursion to a vibrant Nubian village, where travelers experience a traditional elementary school, adds a poignant human touch to the voyage.

As the Viking Amun prepares to chart her course on the storied waters of the Nile, she carries with her a legacy of exploration, elegance, and discovery.
