MSC Cruises announces development of 'Little Cay' near Ocean Cay

MSC Cruises is advancing its private island offerings in the Caribbean by developing a second exclusive destination in the Bahamas, provisionally named "Little Cay." Situated just north of the existing Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Little Cay is being constructed on a natural sandbank formed during previous dredging operations for Ocean Cay's channel and turning basin.

The new island is anticipated to be approximately one-third the size of Ocean Cay and aims to provide an upscale experience that complements the existing reserve rather than replicating it. MSC Cruises has indicated that Little Cay will offer guests a luxury experience deeply connected to nature, featuring pristine beaches and oceanic beauty.

While specific details regarding amenities are forthcoming, the company has confirmed that the island will include luxurious features, seaside relaxation areas, and a design integrated with the natural environment. Access to Little Cay is expected to be via upscale tenders from the main island, although the possibility of constructing a dedicated pier remains under consideration.

Industry observers speculate that Little Cay may serve as a dedicated retreat for passengers of the MSC Yacht Club or Explora Journeys, MSC's luxury cruise line. Additionally, plans are being considered to expand capacity at Ocean Cay itself, including the potential addition of a second berth to accommodate larger-scale ship visits.

A timeline for the completion of Little Cay has not been announced. MSC Cruises has stated that more details will be provided as the project progresses.
