Army Corps of Engineers personnel on duty at Cape Cod Canal (Massachusetts) on Wednesday night, October 12, heard scraping sounds as a Viking cruise ship passed under Buzzards Bay Railroad Bridge, according to Larry Rosenberg, Corps Public Affairs Chief.
He said that Viking Star passed under the bridge at 7:08 p.m. The Corps is currently investigating the incident.
The railroad bridge is 544 feet wide and features clearance of 135 feet, according to the website of Army Corps. The Viking Star ship has 9 decks, according to Viking Ocean Cruises, and can accommodate 930 passengers.
