A search-and-rescue operation is currently underway close to Puerto Rico after a French citizen, 74-year-old Jeon Pierre Knorr, has fallen overboard from MSC Divina, the U.S. Coast Guard reports.
His wife has told investigators that the accident happened at around 3:00 a.m. local time on Monday when Knorr went out to couple's stateroom balcony to get some fresh air. The exact circumstances of his fall remain unknown.
"MSC Divina officials notified the Coast Guard that they have searched the entire cruise ship and made callouts through the public announcement system with negative results," the USCG said in a statement.
The accident happened when the ship was in waters north of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. A plane, two helicopters and the USCG Cutter Donald Horsley were launched to assist in the operation.
