Honduras has reported an increase in the number of cruise ship tourists and cruise liners last year compared with 2015, reflecting a growing interest in the country as the next top destination.
New ships calling at Honduran ports included Azamara Quest, Swan Hellenic's Minerva and TUI Cruises' Mein Schiff 4.
With the recent addition of the 3 new lines, 18 different cruise companies now stop in ports of call in Honduras.
According to official port statistics, a total of 1,052,738 cruise ship passengers docked in Honduras last year, a 14.7% increase over 2015 figure of 917,938. Approx 85% of the passengers disembarked on the shores of Honduras to enjoy some of the natural beauty of the country. According to the Honduran Institute of Tourism (IHT) a 3% increase in cruises is expected in 2017.
In total, 341 cruise ships visited Honduran ports last year, 6.6% more than the 320 vessels which docked in the Central American country in 2015. Per-passenger average cruise spend in 2016 reached US$80.
