The cruise liner Queen Mary 2 met the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg for the first time Monday evening, August 21, as the ship was taking a tour of port of Hamburg.
In 2004, when the ship arrived in the port city for the first time, she started a cruise boom in Northern Germany. QM2 has since been regarded a maritime icon by the locals and is warmly welcomed whenever she calls at the port.
On Monday, Cunard’s flagship liner steered past Elbphilharmonie Hamburg on her departure, and greeted the new concert hall and landmark of Hamburg with a spectacular 3-point turn.
The encounter offers a foretaste of upcoming Hamburg Cruise Days, cruise industry’s largest event in Europe. Between 8-10 September, a total of 10 cruise liners will be transforming the port of Hamburg into a big stage. Taking place for the 6th time, the event will highlight city’s reputation as the world’s number one in maritime entertainment and cruise events.
