The Valletta docking quay of Grand Harbour ferry service operating between Cospicua and Valletta was blockaded this evening, October 7, by rival boatsmen.
Small boat owners blockaded Lascaris Wharf quay in protest at what they felt was unfair competition by Valletta Ferry Services, offering an extended shuttle service coinciding with Notte Bianca activities. The ferry was due to run until 2:00 a.m.
A ferry transporting passengers out of Cospicua was prevented from docking at 9:30 p.m.. The small boat operators created a cordon with their boats to prevent the bigger ship from reaching shore.
Subsequently, police convinced them to stand down and the ferry was allowed to dock. The passengers disembarked at the shores of the port city.
