A luxury P&O Cruises ship has taken a sharp 180 degree turn 30 mi off the south coast of Spain to rescue 10 migrants struggling on an inflatable boat.
Passengers onboard Britannia which is currently on her way back to the UK were awoken at 1:00 a.m. yesterday to a man overboard announcement.
The ship was around 30 miles south west of Almeria when crew spotted migrants in the sea. Britannia made an abrupt turn and sailed 2 miles back to pick the refugees up.
A coastguard helicopter was sent to take the people out of the water. All were given food, drink, shelter and medical care onboard Britannia.
A ship was sent to fetch the migrants who were taken by the coastguard ashore to Spain and handed over to Spanish authorities.
The boat had come from Northern Africa.
